Salat is better than sleep
Salat is better than sleep
I hear this as my phone sings
Salat is better than sleep
and better then food that I eat
yet I struggle to get on my feet
Sleep is better than Salat
Sleep is better than Salat
thats what I hear but it is not me who speaks
The Ummah of Muhammad (SAW) sleep
rather then pray what has been ordained
may Allah forgive our mistakes which are grave
the birds tune I hear, praising their lord
but my sisters snore forgetting about their lord
I struggle to wake and make wudhu ever so slowely
but I am now ready
off the the mosque now since I'm ready
with my father by my side
I'm off to the mosque now
even the hypocrites attended fard salats in the mosque
so what am I if I do not pray in the mosque
Salat is better then Sleep
As-Salatu khairoon minna noum

When the Night is Dark
When the night is completely dark,
It finds them staying up in the night
Fear has chased away their sleep
So they stay up
While those who feel secure in this life
Quietly sleep on

Do you Have Time?
I knelt to pray but not for long,
I had too much to do.
I had to hurry and get to work
For bills would soon be due.
So I knelt and said a hurried prayer,
And jumped up off my knees.
My Muslim duty was now done
My soul could rest at ease.
All day long I had no time
To spread a word of cheer.
No time to speak of Allah to friends,
They'd laugh at me I'd fear.
No time, no time, too much to do,
That was my constant cry,
No time to give to souls in need
But at last came the time, the time to die.
I went before the Lord,
I came, I stood with downcast eyes.
For in his hands God held a book;
It was the book of life.
God looked into his book and said
Your name I cannot find.
I once was going to write it down...
But never found the time.
I had too much to do.
I had to hurry and get to work
For bills would soon be due.
So I knelt and said a hurried prayer,
And jumped up off my knees.
My Muslim duty was now done
My soul could rest at ease.

Worshipping
I'm not praying.
I'm totally worshiping.
If you don't believe me,
just for Allah Kneel
then come and tell me, how did it feel?!
Just standing there saying
الحمد لله رب العالمين
It's like I'm being washed to come out pure and clean.
How anyone can live without feeling the way I do?
Starting to be your slave is what set me free,
how can anyone see the sky up high,
or the way the cute little birds fly?
And still doesn't believe in YOU!!
Open your eyes people, just try to SEE.
Look at the way the small ant finds its food,
or the way ALLAH brought us together in Islam brotherhood,
where black and white together stood.
My prayer is that everyone can see the Islam I know,
that everyone can feel the way I do,
only by sitting there on the floor,
raising my hands up high,
knowing that my only escape is YOUR Open door,
and you never even once let me down in anyway.
How come? and You are the one and Only who created us all.
Just wanted to say thank you for making me a "muslimh" from my first day.
when everyone gave up...I didn't
because deep inside I had faith in YOU.
Just then I knew,it was your hint
that everything will be alright
knowing you are right here,
I never had a lonely night
believe me I'm not praying...I'm totally worshipping.

I Have Strayed
Ya Allah I have strayed,
countless times disobeyed:
With the sight you blessed me with I have abused,
the ears & tongue I misused...
Is there anyone that guides but You?
And who forgives besides You...
My sins reach up or beyond the sky
When I remember my heart weeps & cries
I feel so desperate, the state of my grave?
Yet If your mercy & forgiveness doesn't release me, Yah Allah I'm trying, a sinful, remorseful slave.
I let this dunya overtake me
I let it control me, strung me like puppet, miserably tied unable to break free
Yet here I am Allah, hoping for your Mercy, Save me, O Allah, please save me..
Yah Malik Yawm middeen!
Yah Dhul Jalali wal ikram!
Allahummah Alaameen!

Prayer Time
A blur of colors standing in a row
Words spoken silently
Misty eyes touch the soul
Of those who understand
Concentration etched on faces
Trying to absorb the words
Time slows inside as the meaning
Flows through the heart
Lifting the spirit out of darkness
Shining light into the soul
As heads bow in humility
To Him who always watches
by Sister Fatima

Time To Pray
I got up early one morning
And rushed right into the day
I had so much to accomplish
That I didn't have time to pray
Problems just tumbled around me
And heavier became each task
'Why doesn't God help me?' I wondered
He answered, 'You didn't ask.'
I wanted to see joy and beauty
But the day toiled on grey and bleak
I wondered why God didn't show me
He said 'But you didn't seek'
I tried to come into God's presence
I used my key at the lock
God gently and lovingly chided
My servant you didn't knock?
I woke up early this morning
And paused before entering the day
I had so much to accomplish
That I had to take the time to pray!
And rushed right into the day
I had so much to accomplish
That I didn't have time to pray
Problems just tumbled around me
And heavier became each task

My sins block my dua'a
(by Anon)
As I sit here alone, the tears rolling down my face
It is not salt, but pain that I taste
So I leave now to go stand before You
I am helpless and alone, what else can I do?
I have asked, I have begged but my sins block my du'a
I will come now still begging, forgive me O Allah
Forgive me and grant me what it is that I ask
For me it is impossible but for You a simple task
I try and I try but I do not succeed
But I understand and know it is because Your Words I do not heed
I hear, yes I hear but I do not always obey
Perhaps that is why I am destitute, isolated and why You have written that I will be alone this way
I have no to blame but the person in the mirror I see
No one else must pay for my sins, no one else, no one else, no one else but me
So I stand before You to again beg forgiveness because You said that I can
You have told us in Your Book that You are Ar-Rahman
I will ask, I will beg but my sins my block my du'a
But I will keep asking, forgive me O Allah
As I sit here alone, the tears rolling down my face
It is not salt, but pain that I taste
So I leave now to go stand before You
I am helpless and alone, what else can I do?
I have asked, I have begged but my sins block my du'a

Salaat
Author unknown
Salaat is a basic pillar of islam
It is mentioned again and again in the Quran
The importance of prayer is in seven hundred places
But in the mosque,do you see many young faces?
Praying in the mosque gives 27 times the reward
Pray with the intention that you're pleasing your Lord
When you walk to the mosque, just remember within
You gain a reward and you're losing a sin
For every step towards your destination
This is a blessing from Allah swt to his creation
The Quran has foretold, that before you are dead
'say your prayers before your prayers are said'
Our prophet (saws) said about those who miss prayer
fifteen punishments they'll have to bear
six in this life, three on passing away
three in the grave and three on judgement day
For missing Fajr at the start of the day
the glow of the face is taken away
the punishment for missing the salaat of Zohar
there will be no blessing from your income no more
For missing Asr, the middle prayer of the day
the strength of the body is taken away
by missing maghrib, remember one thing
you will not be benefited by your offspring
For missing Ishaa at the end of the day
the peace of your sleep will be taken away
while seeing elders pray at the mosque door
remember as a young person, your reward is 70 times more
Read salaat punctually, read it with care
on judgement day, we will be asked about prayer
that's the first question, so take this advice
salaat is the key to paradise
Spread this word to muslim sisters and brothers
salaat will separate muslims from others
salaat is a blessing which Allah swt gave
it will intercede and protect us in the grave
When it comes eventually, to the day of rising
the believers body washed by wudu will be shining
for the believers who are regular in offering salaat
it becomes a light of guidance on the pul-siraat
Don't miss the prayer asr at any cost
it will be like your family and wealth is lost
the ayat-ul-kursi after fard, should be read
it will lead you to paradise (insha Allah) after you're dead
Not reading salaat will lead you to hell
surrounded by serpants in a deep well
read your salaat whilst still in your prime
and read the durood shareef in your spare time
You'll get ten rewards, the Lord (insha Allah) will accept your pleas
and you'll be closer to Allah swt by ten more degrees
so embrace islam with all your heart
and remember the key is reading salaat.

Tahajjud
One early morning at 3
I stood praying silently
Concentration in reciting the Qurans word
Bowing and Prostrating to my Lord
In my heart I feel so content
Tranquility I feel upon me sent
When family did come to know
They ridiculed me for stooping low
For a moment I did feel shame
Then swiftly realised I am not at blame
For, Alhumdulillah, I have been gifted
To partake in the night prayer so rewarded
And family catching me in the ‘act’
Upon them it may positively impact
For them to rethink their connection with the Almighty
And turn to Allah with sincerity and humility
Ya Allah, I thank you for this chance
For this virtue to allow my Imaan and a'mal to enhance.
This poem was inspired when I read of someone who had been 'found out' by their parents to stand in prayer at night and was encouraged NOT to do so by them. May Allah guide us all to do what is good and stop ourselves from stopping (directly or indirectly) others in doing good, ameen.

What Prayer Is . . .
These words I jot down because I shudder with fear
At the thought that young Muslims can sleep without prayer
That to close ones eyes can be as easy as pie
Thinking that prayer is a ritual, outdated, should die.
You my friend, you must be as dumb as a log,
For you have forsaken your freedom, to be lead like a dog!
Have you the faintest idea what will happen to you
When you rot in your grave with the worms gnawing through.
When your body is dusting Your flesh rotted away
"GAME OVER" is flashing,And no more credits to play! Then the sun will explode and the mountains will sway
And the whole of creation will rise on that day!
The angels will fly, like moths to a flame
And you'll tear from the earth, to explain your life's game!
Blackened to a char will be the skin on your face
Your friends will desert you , there won't be a trace.
Iblis will be laughing, with a stitch on his side
Because you were too STUPID, to get off his ride
The wealth of this world, took you for its bride
Its too late friend, its HELL for you inside.
A fire so hot, that the boulders will burn
Like a match exploding, it'll soon be your turn.
If only you had that chance to repent
You'd soon reconsider all the time that you'd spent.
There will stand people, against whom you did tease
Because their sajdah did scare you, filled you with unease
While you tried to disown them, like a infectious disease,
Now you toss in the flames, while they cool in the breeze.
In the line of eternity, your life is a dot hundred years
Is all that you've got, 5 minutes of prayer!
Not worth the time ? You've committed the greatest crime!
Prayer is not for your God O! Fear our Lord!
When you put that big head on the humblest of dust
Its your heart that you clean, all tarnished with rust!
You connect your soul wiz creations'
Great Light, Even the darkest of hearts can be left shining bright.
You remove all the sin, and Shaitan's whispering words
Slash evil's hold, with the greatest of swords.
Prayer is the path from earth to the sky
From a caterpillar you'll become a bright butterfly.
Prayer makes you remember that you aren't all that hot
And that your life really starts, when your flesh starts to rot
Prayer is that link to the mother from the womb
Prayer is the guardian that protects you in the tomb.
Prayer untangles your life, like a comb thru your hair
Against the fire of hell, it's the only cloak you can wear
So understand friend! To skip prayers is not cool
Its so stupid, so mad, you must be a fool.
It's like crossing a desert without water to drink
Just open your eyes friend, just sit back and think!
This world is a lie, this world is game
Like a poisonous snake, which you never can tame.
And just as you turn your back on what's right
There is sure something to bite
Fangs will leap from the darkness,
Leading you to sadness.
As you lie in your coffin, facing the sky,
Your life will flash past, a twinkle in your eye.
You'll scream as the truth is slowly unveiled
Its too late, mate. This one you've failed.

The Tongue
Behind enamel blocks, therein it lies,
It moves in all directions clock and anti-clockwise
If used correctly, it can cause ranks to rise
But shooting without aiming could lead to your demise.
A small piece of flesh without a bone in sight,
It can cure friendship and also incite fights,
Then cowardly behind your teeth, safely it sits tight
And YOU get a jab and a hook from the right.
It bears witness about Allah and His Prophets
The hereafter is where you’ll see the real profits
It remembers Allah plentiful, but think nothing of it
It recites the Quran wonderful, so start and you’ll love it.
It also has a bitter side If it boasts and talks with pride,
You’ve backbitten if you speak but hide It’s called slander if you lied,
Abusive language leaves eyes wide
Make an effort, make truth your bride.
“He who keeps quite, gains salvation”
“Backbiting is worse than fornication”
That’s our Prophet’s declaration
Please take into consideration
Take time out for contempletion About Allah, Lord of all creation.
It recites Quran to gain reward,
Use it for speeches, make it your sword.
Anything that will please the Lord,
To waste precious time, that we can’t afford.
With Allah's name begin your day,
Remember Him while you work or play Keep evil doings out of your way
On the straight path you will stay.
If it sings, change it to nasheeds Pick up an Islamic book to read.
Most important repeat your creed,
For the Hereafter sow your seed For that day you’l need every good deed.
Use it to supplicate, use it to repent
At the All-Mighty’s doorstep, drop and lament
Solely for worship is why we were sent
Let not Satan be an impediment
And keep Allah’s remembrance immanent.
Keep Muslims safe from its attack
Be they red or be they black Disunity is the biggest drawback
So keep the unity free from slack Oh Allah!
Keep us on the straight track.
Its correct usage whoso guarantees
And of that between his knees.
The Prophet will make certain he sees
Our entry into Paradise with ease.
A humble effort, not a song
An attempt to pass a message on It can do good, it can do wrong

Al-Hamdulillah
As I rise each day
Al-Hamdulillah I say
As I put on my dress
Al-Hamdulillah I express
As I fill my empty plate
Al-Hamdulillah I state
As I make ready to strive
Al-Hamdulillah for another day alive
As I hear the birds sing
Al-Hamdulillah for the melody they bring
As I watch the sun rise
Al-Hamdulillah for my eyes
As I wash in the stream
Al-Hamdulillah I am clean
As I pray my Salat
Al-Hamdulillah for the best start
As I share my gifts with neighbours
Al-Hamdulillah for Allah's favours
As I delight with my family
Al-Hamdulillah for their care for me
As I pray for forgiveness
Al-Hamdulillah for deliverance
As I open the Qur'an
Al-Hamdulillah for my Iman
As I understand and take heed
Al-Hamdulillah, Al-Hamdulillah
For all the good I receive.

Spread Salam
Assalam-alaykum
Familiar faces we often greet
Exchanging dialogue while we meet
But as we gesture, respond and smile
Before we speak, just think a while
Welcome not wiz words unrewarding
'Hello', 'Good day', 'Good evening', 'Good morning'
But choose to radiate peace and calm
Offer a warm exchange of 'Salam!'
And peace on you' - comes the reply
Will bond our kinship and strenghen our tie
To those unknown, do not hesitate
We are one family in Islamic faith
Allah's servants of the sky
The Angels extend this humble reply
And our acceptance into Grace
yeilds 'Salam' ... a blessed fate
So give glad tidings with words serene
Spread the blessings of 'peace' - our Deen
And relish the good of this healing balm
And wish all our brothers and sisters 'Salam'

The Buzz
The Buzz
by Ahmed
inspired by a talk given by Shaykh Ahmed Ali
Everyone is seeking to find
‘The buzz’, contentment and peace of mind
Some seek it in pubs and bars
Others try to find it in flash cars
Several try and find it in women
While others in Drugs, again and again
With these the buzz you may gain
Not lasting long, your efforts in vain
The truth is this is not where it can be found
So stop all this crazy fooling around
And remember your Lord in repentance and humility
For only through this will you find serenity and tranquillity
Give up this worldly and material yearn
Rather strive for Jannah, the beautiful place of final return
‘...Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.’ Surah Ar-Ra'd Verse 28
