A real friend wishes his companions well,
He's not one who allows them to get close to hell,
Always be careful of the friends you Choose,
So, in the end, Jannah you will not lose,
If you find your companion is not stopping your wrong,
then, be weary, his friendship is not strong.
If you see the pattern made,
that when you are under your friend's shade,
Your Imaan begins to fade,
Leave the worthless creation,
make friends with Allah, Surely that is a high station!.
A dervish who had knowledge of our present situation,
Once told his students the following dictation,
"The meeting of people will never enrich you,
save with the gibberish of useless gossip.
So diminish your meeting with people,
except for knowledge or to improve your condition"

The Tears Never Did Stop
I set my foot inside the Holy Mosque,
Upon the cold, white marble, Where day and night, People
sat worshipping, praying,
The tears never did stop.
Right and left, the Mosque being cleaned,
Shining, not a particle of dust, The carvings of marble, the plates of gold,
The symmetry of the whole Mosque, the largest of it all,
The tears never did stop.
Then came the grandest of the whole,
The center of one's life and concerns, The big, Beautiful House of Allah,
Covered with black cloth and gold leaf writing,
The tears never did stop.
My life flashed past me, the good and the bad,
such a feeling I had never felt before,
A special bondage to the Almighty-A sudden chill in me,
The tears never did stop.
Looking around, the large floor was filled with people,
Circling the beautiful house, loudly chanting,
People sitting, praying for forgiveness,
Praying for another chance to lead a better life,
The tears never did stop.
Taking a deep breath, I entered the never ending crowd,
With my heart pouring out all the prayers I could think of,
Begging for forgiveness of my sins,
Praying to become a better individual
The tears never did stop.
I ran around the black house,
The ancient, black house built by Ibrahim (AS) centuries ago,
Where not one second passes when people are not circling it, praying,
The tears never did stop.
I got closer as did my heart, mind and soul,
I touched the sacred house, hands trembling,
Knowing I was as close as ever to the Almighty,
The tears never did stop.
It was amazing, everyone centered their attention only on worship
All worldly concerns forgotten, focused on praying,
Forgetting everyday matters and happenings,
The tears never did stop.
The rituals were tiring, took strength and time,
But what is a few hours for our Giver, Our Creator?
For what He has given us, the worldly goods, the luxuries,
A few hours of forgiveness for our sins,
The tears never did stop.

Final Ritual
Disastrous storm of suffering has broken loose,
Unsettling black fog disrupted her misery stage,
Its glorious air cursed into depressing stale,
Sadistic play continued as certain as fate,
Theatrical of distress was each day relive,
Portrayed hardness of heart as virulent plague,
Pride and honor disfigured and unspeakably disgraced,
Virile soul once but ailed and wretched,
Guilt got overthrown while fear diminished,
Stream of tears kept her sedative consoled,
As seductive whisper of end eagerly awaited,
That night death freed she who sinned,
Satan has won again as Angels wept,
Burning gates of hell slammed entirely shut.

All That Glitters is not Gold
All that glitters is not gold
So many times I had been told
Yet I ignored this simple advice
And fell in love with my demise
Glittering bright you enraptured me
The rest I could and would not see
Gilded gold were truly you
All fake and not true
An embodiment of my dreams
In every aspect to me it seemed
A treasure to hold close to my heart
Which one day you would tear apart
But like all lies yours didn’t last
The truth revealed- cruel and fast
And then I realised to what I was blind
An ore of impurities yet to be refined
Lacking the value of true gold
For an expensive price you had been sold
Money cannot value my loss
For my very soul you had cost
But a valuable lesson I was taught
Gold should never ever be sought
For all that glitters is not gold
I learnt once my heart was sold.

The Veil
Ignored, left and abandoned by association
Seen as a germ, convicted of the sin of abandoning assimilation
The veil of hers, not combined with tight jeans or cute ditsy little shirts,
With an attitude that says no to flirtation--not wanting attention, even if it hurts
A person of that type and especially a female
Is not well liked, for many believe that she should be on sale
For all to see,
bought cheap as eyecandy
They say its freedom to dress as if there's a shortage on cotton,
And its apparently fine for everyone to look at her bottom
But when a girl wants to cover up and respect herself and her deen, they call her oppressed--
Sling at her names, give odd looks and try to make her depressed
Nonetheless, she's patient, persevering, and not succumbing to their jargon,
For the duniya is a prison to the believer and to the kafir, a garden...

The only girl who wore a hijab to college
The only girl who wore a hijab to college:
Unhappy is what they call me
Being oppressed in their eyes is why they avoid me,
Thinking of everyone around me
Hell is what I call this place
Wishing I could leave this space,
Everyone surrounding me, staring at me as if I am a danger,
People walking pass, salutes me with a long gaze
Then they spit to their side and walk away,
Praying day and night
O’Lord help me!
O’Lord educated these foolish and nasty people
O’Lord if your will saves me!
O’Lord I am lost! Lost in this place of spiteful people
Then this all ends in tears....

Source of Happiness
What is the source of happiness in this life?
Of which all the people of the world should strive
Is it alcohol? The drink to which people claim;
Makes them feel elated and free of shame
If it is that good then surely the more we’d drink;
The happier we’ll be, or so you’d think.
If alcohol really could make people happy
Why do we find alcoholics among the lowest of the community?
How can it be that something so ‘fine’ and ‘good’
Brings about so much destruction in people’s livelihood
Another object of desire is beauty
To be attractive, handsome; or even a cutey
This desire that is fueled but never satisfied
To think happiness is attained by having a beautiful wife
How can this be a reason for being happy
Something so transitory, that fades so easily?
As beauty is so limited, it cannot be the source
To which all people should strive towards
It is often heard that our children are the apple of our eye
I can tell you first-hand; they bring bliss I can’t lie;
But there is also an un-admitted truth
That they also bring with them, the greatest pain too
Feelings which are unimaginable before parenthood
When your child is sick; you feel the utmost hurt
So how then can children be the source of happiness in this world?
When parents’ emotions are a roller-coaster ride, with high’s and lows?
How about marriage? Having a husband or wife;
Surely they’d bring comfort and joy to your life
But there will be times when you’d feel distanced and heartless
In which you should continue to do good by your spouse for Allah’s sake, regardless
Because only with Allah you will find true tranquility
When you obey Him in times of happiness as well as misery
Because only with obedience to Allah will you attain inner happiness
And acknowledge the pleasures and riches of this world are worthless
Whoever does right, whether male or female, and is a believer, We will make him live a good life, and We will award them their reward for the best of what they used to do. (Quran, 16:97)

Muslim Women
This goes out to every single one of my queens
For all the sisters taking shahadah and my hijabis
Mothers raising sons and daughters, y'all get much love from m
From the heart of Mecca to the street of new York city
Global ambassadors of Islam
Y'all are the reason we're a world wide phenomenon
the reason a billion people read the Quran
I can't express your worth in just one song
Word in my bond, hijabis all over the world
Easy, breezey, beautiful covered girls
Deserving of all the worlds diamonds and pearls
Better yet, Jannah is what y'all really deserve
Inshallah, all praise is due to Allah
Cause We're all His slaves in this dunya
Only He can see into the future
He commanded the pen to write everything from beginning to end
Walk out covering your head He knows your intent
He hears when you repent, Deen of Allah is what you all represent
The epitome of modesty, cleanliness and honesty
These days are rare commodities
And Islam is the only deen that teaches real equality
So dont let life get you down, you were meant to astound
keep your head above water, and both feet above ground
Enjoy the day, and the times that you pray
Worship Allah and find yourself in a better place
Inshallah, because your all beautiful
Guard your beauty, and give it to a man that's suitable
In the end, we're all created human
But your all a step above the rest, there is no disputing
For all the sisters taking shahadah and my hijabis

How Can One Really Know
Is it really, is it so?
How can one really know?
Will the book of deeds be on the left or the right?
Will there be delight or fright?
One things for sure - Allah is Most Merciful
That is what we all can hope for.
How can one really know?
Will the book of deeds be on the left or the right?
Will there be delight or fright?
One things for sure - Allah is Most Merciful

My Hijab – My Identity
There are some places
Be it
A Strange city
Or
A land over the sea
So far from home
I may be
But
Salaams flow from the lips of strangers
What a welcome familiar sound
Respect abound
I am known…
I belong…
And
Then there are places
Where people stare at me
In awe
In fear
Sometimes distrust
Or
Plain hostility
That I accept
And sometimes expect
But still undeniably
I am known…
I belong…
For better or worse
My hijab is my Identity
Be it
A Strange city
Or
A land over the sea
So far from home
I may be
But
Salaams flow from the lips of strangers
What a welcome familiar sound
Respect abound
I am known…
I belong…
And

In awe
In fear
Sometimes distrust
Or
Plain hostility
That I accept
And sometimes expect
But still undeniably
I am known…
I belong…
For better or worse
My hijab is my Identity

Moderate Muslim
I am a moderate Muslim
I don’t pray 5 times a day
Only jummah is enough for me
I don’t fast the full thirty
Five is how many I do
Yes I drink
But only in moderation
I don’t get drunk or puke up in the loo
Yes I am a moderate Muslim
I check out the fit women
But only one at a time
I don’t sleep with them
Coz that’s extreme
I only date them, hug them, hold hands and kiss them.
Coz everything in moderation right?
I take drugs
But only class C ones
Avoid the hard ones
Coz only the fanatics do that
A moderate Muslim is the label I have given myself
Coz I can’t leave Islam
Coz it’s the truth
Can’t be an atheist or secular humanist
So I reconcile my Islam
To please the westerners
By compromising
And trying oh so very hard to fit in
My name is Muhammed
But to all and sundry I am Mo
During lunch and after work
Off to the pub I go
A few bevies
Nothing to heavy
Every weekday
Except for Fridays
Coz that’s a holy day
Despite all my compromises of my Islam
I cannot find any peace of mind or satisfaction in my heart
I feel guilty and ashamed
Feelings of nausea and self hate
My mind is in conflict and I find myself asking a question
Maybe to this you can relate
The question is
If you’re convinced of Islam then why follow it in moderation?
Should you not follow it completely and fundamentally?
Despite what the non-Muslims think or say
Coz who are they to tell us how we should follow the truth
When they are lost and following the misguidance.

You Are...
You are strong...
when you take your grief
and teach it to smile.
You are brave...
when you overcome your fear and
help others to do the same.
You are happy...
when you see a flower and
are thankful for the blessing.
You are loving...
when your own pain does not
blind you to the pain of others.
You are wise...
when you know the
limits of your wisdom.
You are true...
when you admit there
are times you fool yourself.
You are alive...
when tomorrow's hope
means more to you than yesterday's mistake.
You are growing...
when you know what you are
but not what you will become.
You are free...
when you are in control of yourself and do not wish to control
others.
You are honorable...
when you find your honor
is to honor others.
You are generous...
when you can take as
sweetly as you can give.
You are humble...
when you do not know
how humble you are.
You are thoughtful...
when you see me just as
I am and treat me just as you are.
You are merciful...
when you forgive in others
the faults you condemn in
yourself.
You are beautiful...
when you don't need
a mirror to tell you.
You are rich...
when you never need
more than what you have.
You are you...
when you are at peace
with who you are not.

Faith: Love Vs Logic
My heart dreams,
It invites ideas of all themes,
My mind implements,
It eliminates all the tangents,
Yet, My heart depicts
what my mind ponders,
My mind ticks
to my heart's wonders,
My heart flies
on the winding path of laughs and cries,
My mind sails
on the binding rail of gains and fails,
Yet, My heart feels
what my mind sees,
My mind deals
my heart's keys,
My heart seeks,
It longs for the rainbow streaks,
My mind selects,
It picks only the black and white effects,
Yet, My heart fills
what my mind sketches,
my mind instills
my heart's etches,
But now, my heart and mind
are in quite a bind.
The ways of before
just don't work anymore.
To what my heart directs,
my mind burns,
To what my mind objects,
my heart yearns,
The path has come to a split,
either Love or Logic will only fit,
my heart and mind both test their might
to see which shall prevail into the light...

Fartaqi
English meaning to lyrics:
Advance in goodness and rise to the horizon
Sublimity wanted from Muslims
You are the symbol of pearls and glories
Abandon the mud and rise to the sky
You will never see a night without a star
Run up the flags and go ahead Light the lamp and be determined
Overcome the terrors however dark they are
Always advance by your firm will
Be a mole and symbol for people
Who seeks glory and sheds tears
Under the cover of dark night
Or raises dust in the enemy's face
Heaven has perfect magic
Always advance by your firm will
And be like mole and inspirational symbol for people
Advance in goodness and rise to the horizon
Sublimity wanted from Muslims
You are the symbol of pearls and glories
Abandon the mud and rise to the sky
You will never see a night without a star
Run up the flags and go ahead Light the lamp and be determined
Overcome the terrors however dark they are
Always advance by your firm will
Be a mole and symbol for people
Who seeks glory and sheds tears
Under the cover of dark night
Or raises dust in the enemy's face
Heaven has perfect magic
Always advance by your firm will
And be like mole and inspirational symbol for people

Expectations
You expect me to worship You 5 times a day
Even as I feel You ignore the prayers I desperately convey
Dear God please help, please cure me
Been saying that almost dai-ly
It feels like an eternity
Don't leave me like this until I'm in my forties
If that's my fate, I ask you to kill me gently, and forgive me
I'm tired of being hurled down and feeling like crap daily
Been missing Jummah and salah lately
Hard to say that I'm even sorry
Tired of being disappointed, want to change
But keep making the same mistakes again and again
Here's my S.O.S., oh Majestic and Generous
Give me what I ask for, for I have no one else
I'm at the end of my rope, I ask You for help
Even as I feel You ignore the prayers I desperately convey
Dear God please help, please cure me
Been saying that almost dai-ly
It feels like an eternity
Don't leave me like this until I'm in my forties
If that's my fate, I ask you to kill me gently, and forgive me
I'm tired of being hurled down and feeling like crap daily
Been missing Jummah and salah lately
Hard to say that I'm even sorry
Tired of being disappointed, want to change
But keep making the same mistakes again and again
Here's my S.O.S., oh Majestic and Generous
Give me what I ask for, for I have no one else
I'm at the end of my rope, I ask You for help

Craving Your Presence
I hope, wait and yearn to hold onto you so tight,
Radiate some warmth and draw you a smile,
Teach you what's wrong and show you what's right,
Guide you towards light in the midst of a trial...
I long to hear you moan about life and its pain,
So that I hand you the key to happiness and joy,
Let you once again see the bliss of standing in the rain,
The days you enjoyed jumping in the puddle with your toy...
I crave to hear you call me even when I sleep,
To either tell me you love me or show me that you care,
Understand my eyes will not close when I hear you weep,
Yes your life is yours but with me please do share...
because all this is me yearning to be a mother
& for you to be my child.

Like the Strong Wind
It blew like the strong wind;
It burst like a bright flame;
It became like a youth in its determination;
It flew like a hawk, with pride;
Welcome, my caravan; My caravan of wisdom;
O generation of the future, let’s go;
Let’s exert ourselves and work hard;
Let’s always rise to the top;
And never accept to be less than the best;
My friends, let’s go about;
And learn different fields of knowledge;
Let’s excel in five or six;
And help a brother or sister;
Leave your laziness and slumber;
The lazy person has never succeeded;
And stop criticizing and blaming;
As Allah is the Helper of people;
Revive the glory of this Ummah;
When it was at its peak;
And brush this dark cloud away from it;
With your high aspirations…

Controlling the Gaze
A poet has pertinently described the evil of letting loose and not controlling ones gaze, and it aptly applies to watching TV and movies:
كل الحوادث مبداها من النظر ... ومعظم النار من مستصغر الشرر
والمرء ما دام ذا عين يقلبها ... في أعين العين موقوف على الخطر
كم نظرة فعلت في قلب فاعلها ... فعل السهام بلا قوس ولا وتر
يسر ناظره ما ضر خاطره ... لا مرحباً بسرور عاد بالضرر
Translation:
All evil occurrences begin with ones glance,
And most fires are caught by (negligence of) those who deem sparks insignificant.
A man remains in danger as long as his eyes scrutinize the eyes of (beautiful) women with large (gorgeous) eyes,
How many a glance has done to the heart the same as what an arrow would do -- without any bow or string.
The one glancing is pleased with what harms his inner self.
No thanks to pleasure that brings harm.
